When the new girl in town, Eliza “Izzy” Forrester decides to hit the local drinking hole, she’s not ready to meet the town’s good, solid guy. She’s definitely not prepared to engage in her very first hookup with him.

Then Izzy wakes up the next morning in Johnny Gamble’s bed and good girl Izzy finds she likes being bad for Johnny.

Even so, Izzy feels Johnny holding her at arm’s length. But Johnny makes it clear he wants more and Izzy already knows she wants as much of hot-in-bed, sweet-out-of-it Johnny Gamble.

Floating on air thinking this is going somewhere, Izzy quickly learns why Johnny holds distant.

He’s in love with someone else. Someone who left him and did it leaving him broken. Whoever was up next would be runner up, second best. Knowing the stakes, Izzy will take what she can get from the gentleman that’s Johnny Gamble. And even knowing his heart might never mend, Johnny can’t seem to stay away from Izzy.

Until out of nowhere, his lost love comes back to town. He’s not going back, but Johnny still knows the right thing to do is let Izzy go.

And Izzy knew the stakes, so she makes it easy and slips though his fingers.

But that’s before Johnny realizes Eliza moved to town to escape danger that’s been swirling around her.

And that’s why Johnny decides to wade in.

That and the fact Eliza Forrester makes breakfast with a canary singing on her shoulder and fills out tight dresses in a way Johnny Gamble cannot get out of his head.

  • Did I read another book?

    By __Karissa
I could not enjoy this book at all, it was horrible! I was so disappointed because there is rarely ever other races represented in books and thought it was great that the author included others, but the description of the character was horribly stereotypical. You would think that an author could have found something beyond “very black, very round” as a description, the main character did not receive this same treatment at all as there were so many different descriptives used for her!
  • Classic KA…but some similarities...

    By lovesbooks6565
This is classic KA....especially if you loved the Colorado Men series. I won't get into the synopsis of the need to read it! If you are a KA fan, you will definitely love this book....although there were scenes that were very similar to here other books. In fact, there is a scene where Izzie looks in the mirror and thinks something. This scene is taken from Sweet of my favorite KA books. Also Izzy's friend reminds me of many of KA's heroines' sidekicks/friends, even down to the description. All that being said, I did enjoy the last 2 KA books(Complicated and the Hook Up). Both books remind me of why I love her books so much! Izzy can be a bit annoying in her "head talk" but she is a solid heroine. And of course Johnny Gamble is swoon worthy! Classic alpha hero!
  • Page One

I gotta admit that there are some stories I read that I skim, they go on and on about things that just don’t hold my interest. Not KA, I devour it ALL. Every word, every chapter, every title! I live in impatience waiting for the next book, once it arrives it sits because I know once I read it I’ll need to wait again. I no longer read the blurbs on the back cover, I just start at page one.
  • Great read

When you're smiling your way through a book that’s when you know it's a good one.. This one took me a little to really dive into but when it did, I fell hard. Such a great read. I want more, looking forward to the next couple's story. Highly recommended!!
  • Great read if you get past chapter 1

The first chapter is an editing disaster, but if you can get past that it is a very good story.
  • Great Read

Just finished this book. I’m sitting here watching the snow falling out the window, with Indiana in a deep freeze. I’m trying to figure out what to say about this wonderful book. One of my favorites of all time! KA is awesome! I want a Toby and Addie story. Please! Lol. 😍
  • So so bad

    By JD Rockafella
This started as a very cute story and then went down in quality from there. Bad grammar, bad editing, and just really bad writing. Repetitious and false sounding dialogue. It read like someone just hit copy and paste for ten chapters.
  • Finding Happy

    By Nuts4reading
A story about stumbling into love. Two people meet & hookup. But it becomes more. Immediately for her, he soon realizes a dream. This is close to KA’s Burg series or Magdalene series. About life, family, love. The start of a new series, I’m ready for the next book!
  • The Hookup

First time reading this author. I read it because it was rated five stars and had a lot of enthusiastic reviews. There were parts of the story I really liked, parts I felt were more descriptive than they needed to be and happened more often than was called for. I expected trouble from Izzy’s X not Shandra’s brother, that seemed a little over the top. It is not what I would rate a five star book, but I can understand the appeal to certain readers.
