Description

A fiercely independent duchess and a brooding, reclusive earl are tested by the demands of desire in this unforgettable romance from the USA Today bestselling author of A Kiss of Lies and A Night of Forever.

For Rose Deverill, one husband was enough. As the wealthy widow of the Duke of Roxborough, she has cultivated an unsavory reputation meant to discourage wife hunters. Thanks to a string of steamy affairs, Rose is perfectly content to be known by polite society as the “Wicked Widow”—until she’s reunited with the man she fell in love with at age fifteen. Their bedroom encounters are scorching, but it breaks Rose’s heart to wonder whether her reckless behavior ruined her for Philip Flagstaff.

The second son of the Earl of Cumberland, Philip never wanted the title. But after Philip’s older brother, Robert, follows him into the Battle of Waterloo, his worst fears come to pass. Now Robert lies in a soldier’s grave, and Philip is determined never to pass on the inheritance to children of his own. Then Rose appears, soothing the pain with her delightful curves and passionate kisses. The notorious Duchess seems to want nothing from him—and yet Philip has never ached to give a woman more.

This entire series from start to this point brought forth great passion, uncertainty, challenge and deep love. The characters evolved and became real the men showed strength, vulnerability, stirring passion and all the fantasy a woman could desire. The women through each story were strong and courageous altogether lovely. I look forward to the final story and I'm going to miss the libertine scholars and their ladies

Oh how I love this book. I could bearly put it down to sleep. I have read every book in The Disgraced Lords series and have love them all but they pale in comparison to this book. I don't know where to start and I wish I could simply said, "just go read this book you will love it" and be done but I can't. Philip Flagstaff the second son to a Earl was always doing something wrong and needing his family to save him. After a particularly bad financial investment he decides to enroll in the Kings army. His brother Robert the Earl of Cumberland follows him in to service in hopes to protect him. After stepping in front of a fatal blow meant for Philip Robert dies leaving Philip as the new Earl, and a guilt that weighs heavy on is soul. He whole heartedly believes the wrong brother died. Rose Deverill never had her season, her fafter married her off at eighteen to a man old enough to be her grandfather. The good that came out of her loveless marriage was her son Drake. She prayed everyday to be a widow and vowed never to remarry and live as a free woman. After discovering what sexual pleasure was in the following years she become known as the Wicked Widow and she truly could not care. Rose's best friend is Portia, Philip's sister and as a young girl she fancied herself in love this him. On the day of Robert's funeral hours after everyone had gone she convinces Philip to leave his graveside and go home. On that day he found comfort in Rose's arms, now two years later their affair is still strong but things have changed. Rose truly loves Philip and he her but he will not allow himself any true happiness. He made a promise to himself to make Robert proud of him but he will not marry and the Earldom will go to his brother Thomas or his children. Rose wants more, she wants children, Philip's children. Can she convince him he deserves happiness and love or will he put his guilt in front of everything. The sexual heat in this book is off the charts. The dialog is witty and characters are fun but also sadness and heartache. There is suspense and twists and turns that I did not see coming. I can't not wait for the next book A Dream of Redemption.

Philip and Rose—how my heart hurt for both of them: Philip because of his mistaken sense of guilt, honor and the debt he felt he owed his dead brother—which didn’t allow for a life for him that included love and happiness. And Rose because of her sad arranged marriage that she intended to never repeat after her elderly husband’s death—and for her unrequited love for Philip. The yearnings and inner struggles of both Philip and Rose made for a very sad, complex courtship that balanced finely between defying society’s rules and living up to what was expected of them. I was proud of their strengths and determination to do the right thing while paying homage to their love. This, indeed, was a love to remember!

Bronwen did it again. The book is fantastic. Troubled lovers, suspense and villains in disguise. It even had the libertine scholars coming to the rescue to help Philip and Rose.

This is really good. The stage is well set at the beginning. Rose is a great single-mother, great friend, down to earth, a little nerve wracking at times but no one's perfect :). Her grace needed a little more physical..... resistance and I thought she was heading toward obsession but the author throws something in the midst of this love affair which really raises the excitement, anticipation and action level.. I like Philip, he is compassionate but he also has some of the normal bull-headed aristocrat tendencies. He fought in the war but now his heart has to fight pass the grief of the war, his body already knows, the rest of him is a little slow at figuring things out, lol. He's a good man though and shows his love for Rose & her son way before he realizes why he's so drawn to them. I'm glad Rose has a second chance, she deserves it. Great couple, I enjoyed reading their fascinating story! Review copy provided by NetGalley.

Philip Flagstaff has lived with overwhelming guilt since his older brother was killed saving his life at Waterloo. He does not plan to marry or have an heir to whom to pass the Cumberland title. Rose Deverill, the widowed Duchess of Roxborough, was sold in marriage to a man old enough to be her grandfather. The only truly good thing to come from the marriage was her son Drake. They have been involved with each other since Robert’s funeral. They love each other, but Philip is so eaten up by guilt that he refuses to consider marriage. Rose wants to find a way to convince Philip that his brother would not want him to give up his life, love and a chance for happiness. Her dilemma is how. There is danger lurking for Rose and Drake from an unexpected villain. Hopefully Philip will wake up before something or somebody takes Rose, and Drake, away from him. A Love to Remember is a deeply emotional story. Rose and Philip are strong complex characters. They have been hurt and are, at least at the beginning of their story, adamantly opposed to marriage. You can’t help but want things to work out for them. They deserve a second chance to be happy. Drake is a delight. The plot is interesting and engaging. There is romance (of course), angst, twists and a surprise or two (including the villains). Enjoy this touching story. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. I voluntarily reviewed it and the comments are my own.

Intriguing and Enthralling Romance! This is my first story by Bronwen Evans and it definitely wont be my last. This story was filled with passion, love, grief, betrayal and danger. Incredibly well written, with well developed characters, that felt so real, and who's story captured and held my attention long after I had finished reading. Passion, desire and grief brought Phillip and Rose together, but without love, how can their relationship survive? Time will tell, as danger and betrayal, just might be enough to prove that Love was there all along. This story will play with your emotions. You will be wrapped up into this story like no other. The romance sizzles, the suspense builds, and the ending is thoroughly satisfying. Loved this Story! Received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and voluntarily wrote an honest review.

Wow!! I LOVE this book!! This is my first time reading a book from this series & now I'm going to have to buy & read the rest!! I really love how Rose isn't the normal 1800's innocent virgin or non-sexual widow!! It's a refreshing change from the usual main female character!! This was a really good book! It's got mystery, suspense, romance, it's got pretty much everything!! It's a well developed story & I felt so bad for Philip & the guilt he felt over his brothers death! I HIGHLY recommend this book! I loved it so much that I'm going to read the other books in the series! If I could give it more than 5 Stars, I would!! *I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!*

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review. The story revolves around Phillip who inherits his brother's title if Earl after he saves his life at Waterloo. Phillip always believed his brother should never have died in order to save his life on the battlefield. His grief and shame caused him to deny himself a family of his own. He fell into an affair with Rose, who was a widow, and came to love her. He did not feel as though he deserved her and refused to marry her. Events happen, kidnapping and attempted murder of Rose and her son that caused him to realize that his brother would not have wanted him to deprive himself of happiness. The book us well written and retains your interest. I would highly recommend this book as it is of the same high standards as the other books written by Evans.
